Multimeter use how to test SCR Digital multimeter or Analog Multimeter
SCR TESTING SCR has 3 legs , namely , Anode Cathode and Gate , we can use both Digital multimeter and Analog Multimeter to test SCR. This article will present the step to test. The sample SCR to test on this article has pin function K A G ( terminal 1 2 3 respectively ) , the SCR part number is TYN610.

HOW TO TEST SCR |

Sample SCR has K A G ( pin 1 2 3 respectively ) |
Step to test SCR with Digital multimeter.
1. Take part number to find leg function from datasheet.
2. Set digital multimeter to resistance test function.
3. Connect test lead to A and K leg.
4. Test A and K leg then switch the test leads and do testing again.
Good SCR will show high resistance as Mega ohm value ,for the first and the second measurement
Bad SCR (shorted ) will show 0 ohm or low resistance 2 time.

Test A and K leg ( reverse test lead) , Good SCR will show high resistance as Mega ohm |
5. Test A and G leg then switch the test leads and do testing again.
Good SCR will show high resistance as Mega ohm value ,for the first and the second measurement
Bad SCR ( shorted ) will show 0 ohm or low resistance 2 time.

5. Test G and K leg then switch the test lead and do testing again.
Good SCR will show low resistance , for the first and the second measurement.
( Note some SCR part number , good SCR show low resistance and "OL") .
Bad SCR ( shorted ) will show 0 ohm 2 time.
Bad SCR (open ) will show OL 2 time.

Test G and K leg ,will show low resistance 2 time. |

Test G and K leg ( reverse test lead) ,will show low resistance 2 time. |
Step to test SCR with Analog multimeter.
1. Take part number to find leg function from datasheet.
2. Set Analog multimeter to resistance test function , R x 1.
3. Connect test lead to A and K leg.
4. Test A and K leg then switch the test leads and do testing again.
Good SCR the pointer will point at ∞ , for the first and the second measurement
Bad SCR ( shorted ) will show 0 ohm or some very low resistance for 2 time.

Test A and K leg by Rx1 ( reverse test lead ) , Good SCR the pointer will point at ∞. |
5. Test A and G leg then switch the test leads and do testing again.
Good SCR the pointer will point at ∞ , for the first and the second measurement.
Bad SCR ( shorted ) will point at 0 ohm or some very low resistance for 2 time.

6. Test G and K leg then switch the test leads and do testing again ( use Rx1)
Good SCR will show low resistance , for the first and the second measurement.
( Note some SCR part number , good SCR show low resistance and " ∞ ") .
Bad SCR ( shorted ) will point at 0 ohm for 2 time.
Bad SCR (open ) will point at ∞ for 2 time.
